Do priests get tired when people confess to them? Let's go to church interview them!
On the first Sunday of October, I decided to go to church and interview some priests in person to see what they thought of the "cyber priest" project I had conceived, I am also curious about priests as "representatives of God", who often have to receive confessions from others, apart from their devotion to their faith they are just ordinary human beings, as individuals, also have emotional problems of their own as a result of receiving too much negativity?
I chose two churches, all saints West Ham church in West Ham and Hope Church in Stratford, and interviewed pastor SI NICHOLLS and minister Faustine respectively.
I now realize that there are many other differences between Catholicism and Christianity in terms of designation...
Transcript of the interview process
1. How long have you been a priest?
SI NICHOLLS: 8 years.
FAUSTINE: 11 years.
2. I was very interested in this form of people confessing before the priest. It is also someone who said that " the priest is the one who knows the most secrets." What do you think of this act and why are people so comfortable revealing their Darkside to priests?
SI NICHOLLS: At the level of canon law, priests have a duty of confidentiality with regard to what they hear in confession, a rule that existed in the Middle Ages. If a priest reveals what he has heard in confession, he will face the severest penalties of the Church.
FAUSTINE: I think it was based on trust in me and a genuine desire to seek God's forgiveness.
3. What do you think of the opinion that priests were the first psychiatrists/therapists?
SI NICHOLLS: I agree with the statement that, leaving aside the significance of the faith dimension and looking at it in a secular way, confession can be understood as a psychological diversion. On the other hand, there is a door that is always open to all, including the offender, telling everyone that it is never too late to repent if they are sincere. This kind of inclusive acceptance can pull many desperate and confused people back to the right path, and its significance is even greater than that of psychotherapy.
FAUSTINE: Personally, I think a priest will be more effective in spiritual salvation than a psychiatrist. The reason is that people who go to a priest are psychologically identified with God, whereas those who go to a psychiatrist are mostly half-hearted.
4. People trust you with all their Darkside because you represent the god, but as yourselves, aside from the power that religion brings, as a human being with empathy, do you still sometimes feel that accepting too much negativity has an emotional impact on you?
SI NICHOLLS: It's bound to happen, sometimes we're like an emotion tree hole, but faith alleviates a lot of that for me.
FAUSTINE: No doubt that's a given, but whenever I think about the fact that I'm helping someone do something good and the spread of the gospel think it's worth it.
5. How do you usually dissipate your negative emotions?
SI NICHOLLS: Contemplation or read the Bible again.
FAUSTINE: I will talk to God in my heart.
6. I think Art has always been closely linked to religion, in past times there have been various outstanding artists who have created artworks that have given people a more vivid sense of the power of religion. Nowadays is in the cyber age, do you think there need for a new form of art to show thinking about religion?
SI NICHOLLS: You say it so well, and I couldn't agree more, that the Bible has had a profound influence on European literature and art. And now I think there should be new forms of art too, art and religion have always been closely linked.
FAUSTINE: I very much agree that young people are a very important force for the future and there should be new art forms to explain it all to them.
